Story

I am going to run 7km a day for 7 days with a bonus one somewhere to total 50km for my 50 years. Before MND came along, I would have thought such a target would need some commitment; now, I don't quite know how my weakening legs will hold out. But, Kevin Sinfield did 7 marathons in 7 days so at least I can try to push my own envelope!

Updates

Day 7

30th May 2021
The last 7km in the challenge. Some tired legs this evening but over 30 people turned up to do the run with twice as many again lining the route with flags, baloons and generous encouragement. Unintentionally, we went out too quickly, getting drawn on by the applause and it took its toll near the end. All were deserving of their refreshments in the sailing club bar - we probably should have eaten as well! Thanks again and again to those who've donated, those who've supported us and to those who dusted off their trainers and come running. Its been great!

Day 6

28th May 2021
A great turnout for this evening 7km. Back to where it all began at Hayle FC. No matter how tired I felt as we travelled over, seeing so many friends from over the years turn up to do the distance really lifts the soul. Good chatting as we started out but it definitely got quieter as we progressed. One more to go tomorrow!

Day 5

28th May 2021
" God, I'm tired. And sore, and aching", I said this morning. "Well it's bright and sunny so we may as well do it early", said my running partner today. Talk about tough love! We did the 7km quicker than we have any previous day. People we meet en route are invariably smiling and encouraging us and I hope we are visible to many. Today, I passed £7k raised for the challenge which is amazing. Thank you all once again. But God, I'm tired. And sore, and aching!

Day 4

26th May 2021
Some sunshine and warmth at last! A later run til school finished and a little more recovery time. Colin & Adam came back for seconds and picked up the pace. Less chat en route as a consequence. We've broken the back of it now though!

Day 3

25th May 2021
Still no sunshine! A dental theme with todays companions as we headed inland for a change. The last few days are leaving their mark on the legs for sure. A gentler pace today though allowed the chance to add in the bonus km at the end- but still not even half way there:(

Day 2

24th May 2021
A football related posse to help me along the route today- some who haven't run in a long long time. The weather still not being kind with wind and rain today but the feature on BBC Breakfast made that immaterial. Gratitude &respect for all joining in and for the stores of ibuprofen gel they have prepared!

Day 1

23rd May 2021
25kts of wind made for a difficult start to the week, but the good company of Colin Stephens helped make it bearable!

Funds raised

Training progressing well. Provisional start is this Sunday depending on upcoming forecast. I wanted to say a thank you to all of you who have donated to this. It has surpassed my expectations and more. When a cure for MND is found, each of you will be able to say 'I helped to do that' for which thousand of people, hopefully me included, will be eternally grateful. Go raibh mile maith agaibh!

I thought I better do some training. It became apparent that the first challenge is not the distance or any pace, its simply doing my laces up!
